Ankalaev still being ranked ahead of Jiri after this weekend goes against the logic of how the rankings are supposed to work. Jiri just beat Hill who was #3 that should’ve jumped him up because Ankalaev’s highest ranked win is #5 Rakic in a 29-28 decision AFTER Jiri already FINISHED Rakic. And they have another ranked common opponent in Oezdemir, again Jiri FINISHED Oezdemir while Ankalaev took him to decision. And when it comes to losses Jiri’s only losses are to the champion (who’s also Top 3 P4P), while Ankalaev got finished by PAUL CRAIG and has a draw against Blachowicz. Jiri won the belt against Teixeira who beat Blachowicz and then while Jiri was injured Ankalaev got his title shot against Blachowicz for a vacant belt and blew it. You stack up their relevant wins in the division, Jiri’s resume is much better. You stack up their losses, Jiri’s is better, we’re talking losing to Pereira vs losing to Paul Craig. There is seriously no reason Ankalaev should be ranked ahead of Jiri other than you just want to hype him up vs Poatan. Jiri is in that Holloway/Whittaker role that they were in for awhile, beating everyone else except the champion. They were always ranked #1 and no contender was jumping them in the rankings even after they lost their title bouts. So why is Ankalaev ahead of Jiri at all, especially after the Hill win. Makes no sense.
