Event is still a month away. That’s usually enough time to get a quality replacement. However with the way the division sits right now there’s really only two realistic options available. Rakic and Oezdemir. I’d imagine the goal was to have Rountree fight up the rankings not down. Rakic hasn’t fought since October. I’d imagine hes in some sort of fight shape right now. He’s probably been looking for a fight but everyone else was either booked or he’s already fought before. I’m sure he’d welcome a matchup like this because he needs a fight he can win badly after 3 straight now to Jan(injury) , Jiri, and Ankalaev. This would still be a relevant fresh matchup that would provide some clarity to the division and add another contender to the Top 5 mix. Rakic is still a guy with potential and championship aspirations while Oezdemir at this point is more of a gatekeeper so I think Rakic vs Rountree makes more sense as a solid main event of a fight night.
