IF Suga wins, it will be by decision
Sean O'Malley has every tool necessary to put Merab down on the feet but considering the more timid "time a shot" gameplan he came in with for the first fight, I think Sugas main path to victory should be on points. First of all, I have a hard time understanding people saying he has no chance when in the first fight he had success while he was more limited. The narrative that Merab Dvalishvili dominated Suga in the first fight just isn't true, in my opinion. Sean won 2 rounds in a fight where (no excuses) he came in with a horrible game plan and was injured. I fully expect he and Tim Welch to be able to see where their faults were and attempt to fill in the gaps with distance management and improved scrambles. Sean's success in the third and fifth rounds showed what he should have been doing the whole fight, accepting he will be taken down and working through that by making space for himself and setting up counters with his teeps and feints. He needs to accept that he WILL be pressured and he will have to scramble to get himself out of the positions where in the first fight he was giving up control time. O'Malley of all people will be aware that he can't just wait for Merab to come to him and open himself up for one singular finishing blow, Sean will need to accumulate damage over 5 rounds in volume and try his best to circle out and capitalize on Merabs shaky striking defense from range or scramble himself out of postions Merab benefits in and land blows while on bottom or when in the clinch range. He overcommits on takedowns, and Suga should be ready to throw knees up the middle or to the body depending on how far he shoots in from. I'm not picking Sean but people who don't think there is a path are delusional.
