First off let me say I am a Yan fan and I don’t mean to disrespect him: I believe Petr Yan is a very skilled fighter, but he’s overrated when “hardcores” consider him an all time great based on PfP skill. Fans constantly discredit his losses as robberies (except against Merab) even though he got outperformed in those fights. His striking and wrestling are aesthetically pleasing and very good, but looking sharp doesn’t make him the best. O’Malley outstruck him, Yadong found success on the feet, and in both cases Yan had to rely somewhat on his grappling to try and win. That doesn’t reflect someone being one of the greatest strikers of all time; it reflects a very good fighter who’s been overvalued because of how smooth his style looks rather than what the results actually show.
