Dustin’s 3rd and last title shot (and possibly his last fight), and Islams first defense in the USA (3rd defense total) all goes down in Newark NJ June 1st. I’m a huge Dustin fan, he’s my favorite fighter, but even I can see when he’s got big challenge in front of him. Islam’s standup has increasingly gotten better through the years, and let’s not even start about his wrestling. Even if Dustin Poirier manages to keep it standing, what are the chances you think he could land that knock out shot on Islam? Do you think he’ll gas from repeatedly defending takedowns? I don’t think it’s impossible for Dustin to win, the dude’s whole motto is “pressure makes diamonds”, he’s been in bad spots before and performed like a champ, but the bottom line he needs to overcome Islams wrestling and keep it standing or find ways to get up, and I’m just not sure how he is going to fair doing that against Islam.
