SCORING ROBBERIES (PART 1)
By maxhollowayfan
First and foremost this is a close fight, NOT a robbery. You can give this to either fighter based upon the second round as both had relatively clear rounds other than the 2nd. Incredible fight nonetheless. Round 1 (10-9 Reyes) -the pressure from both fighters was solid. Initially Reyes couldn’t find his shots but once Reyes found his range he was able to exploit Jon’s tricky defence however marginally it was. Jon won the leg kicking battle but Reyes worked the body and had the bigger moments in the first. For the majority of the fight Jon controlled the cage but Reyes is really good on the back foot. Round 2 (10-9 Reyes) -good cage control from Jon initially but Reyes was way more active and you don’t score points by defending strikes. Reyes couldn’t capitalize when he pressured Jon as despite the blitz didn’t land very many significant shots. Reyes consistently kept the attack with the body work/leg kicks whereas Jon was content with more or less coasting. Towards the midway point of the round Reyes slowed down a little and the movement that nullified Jones defence and range control wasn’t all there so Jones had success in the standup. Yet jones still had few significant answers to what Reyes was throwing his way but in all fairness dictated the pace and controlled the positioning/round. Round 3 (10-9 Reyes) -a Reyes round through and through, he kept up the pace and left Jon with 0 answers not enabling him to throw practically any counter strikes despite he himself being on the backfoot. Reyes consistently and effectively caught Jon closing the distance. Far more active and continued to apply pressure. The most clear Reyes round of the fight. Round 4 (10-9 Jones) -the striking exchange in the beginning showed slight momentum in favor of Reyes but Jon shut it down with the takedown and the dominant control on against the cage. Jones did get clipped in some regards but maintained dominant position during the grappling and kept the pressure on a fatigued Reyes. Jones threw the more effective strikes later in the round, outlanding Reyes who resulted to sloppy single strike combinations. Round 5 (10-9 Jones) -good control from Jon in the first portion of the fight, continuing to tag Reyes at distance as he figured out his distance. Jones mixed it up with the striking immaculately being able to land everywhere near enough at will for the further duration of the fight. A gassed Reyes couldn’t do anything. OVERALL SCORE (Reyes 48-47) Fun notes: -Jon has insane defence and a lot of the big exchanges that fans assumed were in favor of Reyes DONT actually give him any leverage as he could not land. -Jon was practically never on the back foot and controlled the cage through the entire fight. -one of the closest fights ever, a really good fight in of itself and if people dismissed the fact it was a ‘robbery’ then they would actually appreciate how much of a banger this was. -rounds 1 and 2 were the closet rounds as opposed to the common belief that round 3 was.
