I like Carlos Prates as a fighter because he's a finisher, and overall, the fighting nerds are a cool and refreshing thing in MMA. But I can't scratch the feeling that he's gonna get starched against the top of the division. He's been finished 5 times outside the UFC. Three of those times are submissions, and the other two are KO/TKOs. To be fair, he hasn't lost since 2019 and hasn't been finished since 2017, and I know fighters improve, but his competition since then hasn't been good. His best win is over a 36 year old Li Jingliang coming off a major injury which isn't an excuse for the Leech but more of a example that we still don't know his skill level against top competitors. Don't get me wrong I think he's gonna be ranked and I'd favor him against guys like Magny and Luque who are washed but I think the good grapplers of the division hold him down or get the submission and that he can't hang with the elite strikers of the division either. He passes the eye test but I feel like there's a lot of people online praising him like one of the next title challengers and I just don't see it. Let me know your thoughts.
