Cannonier vs. Page Prediction
Jared Cannonier🇺🇸 (18-8) on the feet uses his boxing base to land his jab from orthodox or southpaw and control distance in order to set up his accurate and powerful combinations that include straight right hands, left hooks, crosses, overhand rights, body kicks, and leg kicks. I think how he uses his kicks to slow opponents down and specifically disrupt their stance can be a factor in this fight but it depends on what pace he'll use in this matchup, he's normally patient but can also be agressive with high volume. Defensively, he has good striking defense and can use it to counter opponents through his footwork and head movement to slip punches. He can also initiate the grappling with the clinch where he uses uppercuts, elbows, and knees to open opponents up to being controlled against the fence. He can also shoot solid single or double leg takedowns when his opponents are hurt or off balance, where once on top, he secures the top position, then reigns down heavy ground & pound looking to finish. Michael Page🇬🇧 (23-3) has a hybrid kickboxing and karate style that utilizes moving in and out and lateral movement in order to create unique angles where he either makes opponents miss then counters or lands his own fast and accurate combinations that include jabs, hooks, crosses, uppercuts, spinning elbows, front kicks to the body, roundhouses to all levels, leg kicks, tornado kicks, and spinning heel kicks. His technique is used primarily to slow down opponents' volume, which can be important, but it isn't perfect. He has gotten caught before in his career because of his tendency to rely on his athleticism and keep his hands low. His defensive grappling is based on firstly avoiding takedowns with his footwork and sprawling when necessary. Problems arise when he is actually brought down. On the ground he prioritizes staying safe and avoiding submissions even if that means being controlled for a round but he will make efforts to stand up through creating space and escaping bottom position to wall walk back to his feet. To some this fight may be a clear win for MVP but I can see Jared causing problems for him with the cage push similar to how Barriault just did to Shara but more effectively. My pick is MVP (RD2 TKO/DEC).
