Henry Cejudo🇺🇸 (16-5) presses forward with a high guard using lateral head movement and slips to the outside to change angles and throw left hand jabs, hooks to the head and body, overhands, left crosses, body kicks, and calf kicks at low volume in order to open up the grappling. In the clinch he fights the hands to secure underhooks on the same side as his lead leg or collar ties to break posture then postions his head and arms to be able to drive for knee tap takedowns or short knees to the body. He'll also go for body lock, trip, low single leg, and double leg takedowns. On top he holds opponents down from half guard or side control using ground and pound to help pass to mount or sometimes even the back. Payton Talbott🇺🇸 (10-1) presses forward with an open stance combined with footwork to avoid punches and takedowns to jab to control range and land fast, accurate, and powerful straight rights, left and right hooks, pull back counters, elbows, jumping knees, high kicks, body kicks, and low kicks in volume. He can avoid the clinch with front kicks and teeps, but he can throw a mean uppercut while breaking from the clinch which could land if positioned right. In January he showed a lack ofeffective sprawls, scrambles, or reverses against a competent grappler and lost via control. In June against a competent grappler he defended 12 takedowns with good sprawls, underhooks, whizzers, and overall reaction time while also reversing to top position. 5 months later who knows how he will stack up against an elite grappler. I think Cejudo will neutralize the size advantage with the clinch and wrestle to a decision.
