Controversial Opinion: Joaquin Buckley likely gets HOUSED by Colby Covington
By ccman50
Just looking at his record, he has not fought any high quality wrestlers. The best grapplers he has faced and won against is Alex Morono and Vicente Luque, both BJJ black belts with no wrestling background. People forget Buckley faced Nassourdine Imavov in 2022, a Dagestani with knockout power. Imavov took down Buckley multiple times, even threatened with submission attempts and ultimately took the decision win. And frankly, Imavov's claim to fame isn't his wrestling but his high output striking and cardio that he most recently put on Cannonier. Buckley is absolutely screwed against Covington who is a D1 wrestler. Colby took down Robbie Lawler like it was nothing, made Tyron Woodley look like an amateur, and toyed with Masvidal like a dad playfighting with his son. To add to it, he was up 3-1 on Usman in their first fight before the TKO and the 2nd fight, I scored 3-2 Covington in a tight decision win for Usman. Usman, also a highly competent wrestler himself and likely the most talented welterweight champ since GSP. The Leon Edwards fight was strange but if the 5th round was a sign of anything, Covington struggled to find his rhythm and finally found the gas pedal in round 5. Covington is much like Belal. People hate them because they're wrestlers who rarely entertain the crowd with striking. They go to their wheelhouse to take guys down and get the job done and who would fault them when any KO or string of KOs in MMA will certainly spell CTE later on in life. The less shots you can take in this game, the more likely you get out with your wits still about you. Colby Convington will destroy Buckley Saturday night and I wouldn't be surprised if Colby gets the submission on him. Could I be wrong? Sure but Buckley's unimpressive record leads me to believe he is biting on far more than he can chew.
