Cody Garbrandt🇺🇸 (14-6) is a good striker who uses his speed and footwork primarily to land powerful boxing combinations and draw out counters in volume. They aren't as consistent as the rest of his tools but he does use low kicks and body kicks to slow opponents momentum and clear up more opportunities to end the fight like he did against Assunção in 2020. Cody has some underrated grappling because it is not often displayed in his fights offensively, but his solid takedowns, top control, takedown defense, and scrambles stem from his high school and college wrestling background. Garbrandt earned All-American honors in high school, which earned him offers from Division 1 programs like Rutgers University and Penn State. He winded up at Newberry College, which is Division 2, where he stayed until he dropped out to pursue his other combat sport desires. Raoni Barcelos🇧🇷 (19-5) is a 12 fight UFC veteran coming off an upset victory over the highly touted prospect Payton Talbott. I've been of the opinion Raoni has been underrated prior to his most relevant victory though, being impressed by his wins over guys like Chris Gutierrez and Said Nurmagomedov along with his ability to maintain his skill and develop improved cardio at ages 36 and 37 against Quiñonez and Talbott. On the feet, Barcelos is open in moments, but he's a solid combination striker who utilizes his notably powerful leg kicks to chop down opponents. The kicks come from some of the Muay Thai technique he has implemented into his game. Raoni is a good grappler with good takedown defense who uses takedowns with great entries and scrambles to look to chase finishes with his variety of submissions. My pick is Barcelos by decision.
