First things first this fight is an absolute…., BANGER! Props to both men for accepting the challenge. This fights going to be very interesting with two guys who manage distance with exceptional footwork and striking. I think the lines are priced right and the fight could go either way. What I think it’s really going to come down to is which guys able to get the range and be on the offensive.
Gary has fought a higher level of competition. If he is able to maintain distance and establish his jab early I think prates will wear down as the fight goes and has potential to get submitted. Gary has been training with Charles and Diego Lopez a ton and his grappling has taken leaps and bounds since his UFC debut. He had a RNC locked up on Shavkat in round 5 and was a fight I think could’ve easily been 3-2 either guy. The other side of that is Prates always looks like he’s able to enter his flow state in the striking. If he’s able to get Ian on his back foot and back him against the cage I can see a world where he could get a KO finish with Gary being dropped before by way lesser opponents. I think Gary is too experienced in this spot for the rising star of Prates and will make him wilt over the course of 5 rounds.
Prediction: official pick Gary submission round 4. If you like the other side I could see a prates KO but I think it’s his best chance. I don’t see him being able to win a decision with the much more well rounded fighter in Gary.
Buttttttt the Fighting Nerds are on an insane run and Prates is a killer. What’re you guys thoughts?
