In the UFC, the status of interim belts feels worthless. As an interim champ you’re nothing more than a number one contender. Just to then defend your fake belt without even having the guarantee to face the real champ. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but in my opinion as an interim champ you’re the best active fighter in your division. It would give the belt more weight if the champ and interim champ faced each other, and whoever wins, that would count as the title defense. Does that make sense, what’s your opinion?
