Ko vs. Elliott Prediction
Seokhyeon KošŸ‡°šŸ‡· (11-2) is a 31 year old Welterweight, making his debut after winning his UFC contract on DWCS back in September by decision in a big upset against Igor Cavalcanti. On the feet he is sometimes wild but is normally a technical and powerful striker with his hands who uses his leg kicks, calf kicks, and sometimes head kicks along with solid head movement and footwork to bounce in and out quickly to draw out counters and overall be able to land his boxing combinations in volume easier. His movement strategy is named "kong-kong step." In MMA, the most impressive grappling he's displayed is in his sprawls, which I think are pretty notable, but I've done some research to find out more about his ground game. Seokhyeon has a Sambo background, and he has displayed his skill in that department by utilizing a variety of tosses and trips, along with it also boosting his single and double leg takedowns. Because of the Sambo, he already has strong top control and once down looks to either land ground & pound or look for submissions. He hasn't locked up a submission win in MMA yet, but through his Sambo should be able to open up opportunities for armbars or chokes that arise when he is on top. Defensively, like I mentioned earlier, he plants his hips well during sprawls to stuff takedowns, and when put on his back, he has solid sweeps. "The Welsh Gangster" Oban ElliottšŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳ó æ (12-2) is a gritty and athletic fighter who is 3-0 in the UFC and has gained a solid following after his KO win over Bassil Hafez. On the feet, he is a good striker who utilizes his jab in volume and maintains distance, not overextending on anytbing in an attempt to stay defensively sound. My only complaints in that area of his game is that while he attempts to stay at range he can sometimes be backed up and I feel in a dog fight he would rely on his durability too much, which worries me for this fight. Oban has solid takedown defense but more impressively has good entries on takedowns where he can also use his athleticism to transition from the feet to ground easier. When on top, he looks to reign down ground & pound. Overall, he's a solid prospect but not much of a finisher, which doesn't bother me like it might others. My pick is Elliott (DEC).
