Most Overrated Fighter on the Roster part 3
Hello all, Time for the 3rd installment of my series in which I describe who is the most overrated person currently signed to the UFC in my opinion. The first installment was Buckley, which I have since been proven correct on. Second I said it was Khalil, which I have not yet been proven correct on. Despite that, I think Taira may be more overrated than Khalil currently. 1st, my opinion of Khalil improved marginally after the Hill fight (but mostly my opinion of Hill vanished). There’s also a number of people that agree Khalil is overrated, and I didn’t receive the universal backlash for that opinion that I did for the opinion that Buckley was overrated. Finally, Khalil has a couple solid wins and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a true top 10 guy, whereas I feel pretty confident that Taira is not a top 10 guy, even in a division as shallow as 125. Taira is pretty much a can imo. His best win by a huge margin is a very unimpressive win by fluke injury in which he was clearly losing to that point against Alex Perez. His next best win is probably Carlos Hernandez, which is not a ranked level guy. Perez is not great, but beat Taira everywhere. Taira has one dimensional striking, no head movement, ok wrestling, and overrated jiu jitsu. He almost never throws combinations, even two strike combinations. He eats every punch thrown his way consistently. He arguably got outgrappled by Perez, at least was very competitive with him, and Perez isn’t the best grappler. Royval and Perez both styled on him on the feet, and he didn’t even control Royval that much considering how Royval has shown tendencies to be controlled on the ground in the past. I will say I think his striking power is underrated, and he doesn’t have pillow hands the way people say. I understand why people think that, because he doesn’t have crazy enough power to compensate for how bad a striker he is. I think his only path to victory against park will be a well timed knee or uppercut KO, because in my mind the grappling should be a wash and I think Park is a better striker. Park is also low output and insanely hittable, like Taira, but he at least throws combinations, which Perez was landing on Taira at will. I think Taira loses to almost anyone who can fend off slightly above average grappling tbh. Finally the announcers glaze the nuts off this guy every fight which is annoying to watch on anybody. Let me know your thoughts.
