Julianna Peña🇺🇸 (11-5) is a very durable high pace grappler who shoots solid takedowns and looks to drown opponents with control and ground & pound in order to open up opportunities to take the back and in general chase the rear naked choke. On the feet Peña relentlessly comes forward, throwing untechnical boxing combinations in volume, which is another way she looks to make opposition fade. I'm of the opinion she lost her last bout but I don't think Julianna is completely outmatched in this fight, her ability to create opportunities for herself through her unmatched will to pressure and break people makes up for her lack of technique in some areas. Kayla Harrison🇺🇸 (18-1) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist judoka turned MMA fighter who became a 2 time PFL $1 million dollar tournament winner before signing with the UFC where she's undefeated in the promotion. Kayla uses her elite grappling to gain top control where she uses ground & pound to help advance position so she can work to a submission, which is primarily her arm bar. On the feet, she uses her ground threat to help her initiate the clinch where she throws powerful elbows, punches, and knees in volume. My concerns for Harrison are that #1, the cut to 135 is significant, and she herself said it is torture, which makes me worry in a 5 rounder she could fade. #2 in a potential dog fight as they get into the later rounds I question if outside the clinch Kayla will be overwhelmed by Peñas volume, which could lead to her being taken down. #3 I fear that even though her offensive wrestling is great if her defensive grappling is tested by Peña she may be suseptible to submissions. My pick is Harrison by decision, I don't lean toward a finish because I feel the cut to 135 is going to remove some of her explosiveness and therefore her cardio.
