Simulating the Lightweight Division on UFC 5 (Part 2)
Ilia Topuria (C) v Charles Oliveira (2) UFC 327 Main Event RD 1 - Both fighters land good strikes, Ilia tries jumping the gilly before Charles successfully hurts Ilia with the worst knee bar i’ve ever seen, holding mount for 2m RD 2 - Ilia takes the fight to the ground and gets caught by a poor triangle from Charles, but Ilia taps despite having full stamina (wtf is he doing) RESULT - Charles by triangle choke RD 2, was up 10-9 on all scorecards, Ilia survived 10+ submission attempts from Islam but tapped after 2 weak efforts from Charles, who gets his belt back Justin Gaethje (3) v Max Holloway (5) UFC 325 Co-Main RD 1 - The rematch of the infamous UFC 300 fight starts off well for Gaethje, landing lots of big strikes to Holloway’s massive nose, we will definitely see a finish in this fight RD 2 - Holloway lands 3 slaps in the first 30s before he’s cut near both eyes by hooks from Gaethje, both fighters score knockdowns with big strikes and they both head back to their corners wobbling after one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen RD 3 - Very difficult to top that last round as both fighters are stunned again, but Gaethje follows a knockdown to the ground and finishes Holloway from the side RESULT - Gaethje by R3 TKO, an absolute banger of a fight that could’ve gone either way, Gaethje was up 20-18 in a fight that had 6 knockdowns in 12 mins Charles Oliveira (C) v Justin Gaethje (3) UFC 329 Main Event IFW RD 1 - Charles stuns Gaethje with a head kick after 15s, before doing it again 30s later, he drops Gaethje with a double flying knee but has all 6 of his takedown attempts stopped RD 2 - Gaethje defends another 4 takedown attempts from Charles and opens a cut on the Brazilian’s nose, also hurting him badly with a rolling thunder at the end of the round RD 3 - Gaethje instantly drops Charles with a head kick after 3s, Gaethje takes mount and is one punch away from the KO but can’t get the finish, Charles reverses him and lands big hooks on the ground, with Herb Dean jumping in to stop the fight RESULT - Charles by RD 3 TKO, 19-19 on the scorecards, Gaethje was outstriking and outgrappling Charles and really should’ve finished the fight Final Rankings C - Charles Oliveira (as much as I love Charles these fights were not his best, managed to take advantage of poor grappling from Topuria and Gaethje, who both looked a shadow of themselves) 1 - Justin Gaethje (delivered two big knockouts and came back against Charles, was one punch away from the title but let it slip away) 2 - Max Holloway (two brilliant fights, showed spirit coming back and giving Gaethje a challenge, but Gaethje was too strong for him) 3 - Ilia Topuria (might have the worst submission defence I’ve seen, how did he tap with full stamina) 4 - Arman Tsarukyan (put up a good charge at the end but the slow start cost him) 5 - Islam Makhachev (got beat at his own game by the man he was avoiding, had to leave the division after that loss) 6 - Paddy Pimblett (scousers do in fact get knocked out) 7 - Dustin Poirier (retired after his fight so had to put him here, sorry Poirier fans)
