Stephen Thompson🇺🇸 (17-8-1) uses multiple stances but primarily the side-on karate stance, in and out movement, lateral movement, and pivots to create angles for himself and control range incredibly well. He uses precise combinations that include fast feints, jabs, straights, hooks, and counters along with a versatile arsenal of side, roundhouse, question mark, and spinning kicks that target the head, body, and legs. Like I said, he controls distance well but can be landed on easier when opponents close the distance and look to fight him in the pocket. Contrary to popular belief he does have good takedown defense, utilizing hip breaks, sprawls, and scrambles but the real issue occurs when he is actually taken down he has a hard time getting back up, defending SUBs, and fading quicker. Gabriel Bonfim🇧🇷 (17-1) aggressively presses forward on the feet and looks to land boxing combinations that include basic but accurate punches and kicks in volume but his primary tool on the feet is his ability to draw out counters which allows him to land a powerful strike or bring it to the ground. It's a good thing most of what Gabriel does on the feet is to initiate the grappling because in this matchup Wonderboy could exploit his biggest weaknesses which is his ability to be hit at range and slow down when forced into a standup heavy bout. Bonfim is very reliant on his grappling, but that has resulted in him having good takedowns and top control. That pressure on top allows him to chase submissions, specifically the guillotine choke. My pick is Bonfim (RD3 SUB/DEC).
