Petr Yan🇷🇺 (18-5) presses forward with a high guard accompanied by great head movement, pivoting, feinting, and blocking in order to return fire on opponents with slick counters/parries He uses his footwork to create angles and cut off the cage so he can implement his fast volume combinations that include accurate jabs, straight rights, hooks, crosses, uppercuts, body shots, knees, teeps, and calf kicks. Petr also utilizes elbows in the pocket or the clinch. From the clinch, he can also opportunistically blend his close dirty boxing into trip and throw takedowns. He also has good defensive grappling with standout TDD. Marcus McGhee🇺🇸 (10-1) can fight smart from range using footwork to create angles in order for him to land on opponents while staying defensively sound but can also press forward after making reads and look to implement his accurate and powerful combinations that include high volume straight punches, hooks, shifting overhands, and uppercuts to the body. The worst thing about his striking is that he has a tendency when pressured to exit linearly with his hands open and above his head, in the past we've seen Yan knock Jimmie Rivera down for this kind of exit in the past and it could be repeated if there is no adjustments. It will be hard to find opportunities to utilize his wrestling and purple belt BJJ, but I will cover it regardless. Marcus shoots opportunistic takedowns and then prioritizes holding top positions and winning minutes. He also has solid takedown defense and, when brought down, works very hard to get back up with good sweeps and scrambles. On paper this is a mismatch but in good faith during film study I see small holes and can say some of the only areas in Yans game I can see Marcus capitalizing on is Petrs tendencies to start slow, stand in front of his opponent for too long, and throw telegraphed leg kicks from Southpaw. If Yan starts slow, Marcus should look to limit the amount of times he switches stance to avoid being punished like Cory was then close the distance instead of giving Yan easier reads from range and look to land body shots in volume, especially if Petr is standing in front of him. He should also be punishing telegraphed kicks with body work, takedown attempts, or his shifting overhands. He should look to overwhelm Yan and bank at least 2 rounds before he can process the game plan and take over with reads and counters. This fight will likely be closer than most think but I'm taking Yan (DEC).
