Why do the Android and iOS apps need location permissions?

In some regions, we're required to ensure that you're not within a very well defined area. For example, within Arizona, United States, we need to ensure that you're not within the vicinity of a golf course and casino that has been exempt from daily fantasy sports. This is required by our license within Arizona, United States. This means we need to verify your location when taking any game related action within the app like depositing, withdrawing, joining, updating, or leaving a Tournament.
