Islam Makhachev will defend his Lightweight title against Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 on February 11th at the RAC arena, Perth, per the UFC.

This bout will take place in the Lightweight (155 lbs) division.

Alexander Volkanovski holds a professional record of 25-1 and is the current UFC Featherweight champion. His notable wins include Max Holloway x3, Jose Aldo, and Brian Ortega.

Islam Makhachev holds a professional record of 23-1 and is the current UFC Lightweight champion. His notable wins include Charles Oliveira, Arman Tsarukyan, and Dan Hooker.

Makhachev's most recent win at UFC 280 saw him dominantly capture the Lightweight title against Charles Oliveira. Although he was heavily favored to win, the way he did it left fans in shock as he outstruck and submitted the former champion. All questions were answered as to who the best Lightweight in the world is.

One man still had something to say, though. That man is Featherweight champion and pound-for-pound #1 fighter in the world, Alexander Volkanovski, who stepped into the octagon and challenged Makhachev to his face, putting everything on the line at the height of his career. The former rugby standout has largely cleaned out his own division at 145 lbs and now seeks a new challenge a weight class up.

Each of these fighters is trying to take a great part of the other's legacy, and the winner will cement themself as the best fighter alive.
