Kamaru Usman Reacts to UFC 278 Loss
The former champion, Kamaru Usman, seems to be in high spirits after his recent knockout loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 278. He gave many thoughts on it in a recent interview.
"I'm feeling good, in good spirits. It was a fight, yeah. A fight's a fight, and it happened."
He revealed he suffered no serious injuries or physical setbacks from the loss.
"Yeah I had to go to the hospital to just get scanned and all of that. Just the formalities. I was in and out of (the hospital), but everything was good, you know. Everything was great."
He commemorated the kick landed by Edwards.
"What a shot. It was a great shot. I'm talking hail mary in the Superbowl, last 10 seconds. That was a great shot man. Hats off to Leon."
He was asked if it was hard to look back to the fight and the buzz surrounding it on social media, as well as watching the fight ending sequence itself.
"No, I've watched the fight now 3 or 4 times. Once yesterday and 3 times today. No, it's not hard at all. You know how many people I've done that to? It's not hard at all. It happens. That's the beautiful thing about this sport. That happens but we forget what was actually taking place in that fight. So, I'm not down at all you know. It's almost everyone is more sad about it than I am. You know, everyone's more emotional about it than I am. But that's a good thing for me because it lets me know that people care, people are invested. It sucks that attention is just from a defeat but I'm so gracious to e in the place and time now to where people just care that much. Like I thought I was famous before but f*** with the meme actions going on, I'm (really) famous now."
He explained that the loss now drives him even more.
"It's just an added bonus, it's an added hunger to the return so I'm just excited for what's next. I have the rare opportunity now to just inspire and motivate, and show people that you can fall and get back up."
Kamaru believes that his next fight will be against Leon.
"What else makes sense? I mean, look at the division. It's absolutely what's gonna happen next. I talked to Dana (White), we're gonna let him do his job and we're gonna see what dates make sense and if it's gonna be top of next year. I was gonna try to squeeze one in this year, but it'll probably be top of next year and I wanna go to England."
"I've been feening to go to England. I feel like England is my 2nd home. It's time to go over there and entertain my English people. And what better story? You couldn't write this any better."
Kamaru has handled this loss like a true champion and fans are excited to see him return to action.
