Shunta Nomura was able to improve to 10-2 in the Super RIZIN.4 co-main event, at the expense of another loss for ageing Brazillian veteran Patricky Pitbull, brother of former 3x Bellator Champion and UFC Fighter Patricio Pitbull.
From the start, Nomura’s speed and footwork gave Pitbull problems. Nomura was able to out-point Pitbull early, who was primarily focused on a counter-striking effort.
As the fight progressed, Pitbull threw with more intent, but Nomura consistently landed the cleaner, harder shots. In Round 3, Nomura badly rocked Pitbull with a flurry, nearly forcing a standing TKO before the referee let it continue. A deep cut on Pitbull’s face led to a mid-round doctor check, though he was cleared to fight on.
Pitbull managed a late takedown, but couldn’t hold position and was quickly reversed. At 38 years old and now riding a four-fight losing streak, the road back for the veteran will be a steep one, while Nomura notches the biggest win of his young career.
