Aljamain Sterling has just announced that his next bout against Sean O'Malley at UFC 292 will be his last fight in the Bantamweight division.
Aljamain Sterling has been fighting for the UFC since 2014; since then, nearly all of his bouts have been inside the Bantamweight division. In a recent interview with Chamatkar Sandhu, Sterling announced that this would be the final time he'll fight in the division, win or lose, against O'Malley.
The oddsmakers are always confident in Israel Adesanya.

He's lost 3 fights to Alex Pereira, but the oddsmakers still have him as a favorite heading into this weekend.#UFC287 pic.twitter.com/0MF4krsH1v
Sterling has reigned over the Bantamweight division since March 2021, where he became the first person to win a belt via DQ vs. Petr Yan. However, since then, he's silenced the doubters across three title defenses, claiming wins over Petr Yan, T.J. Dillashaw, and Henry Cejudo. Sterling will now attempt to make it four title defenses vs. O'Malley before jumping to the Featherweight division.
There are plenty of potential matchups for Sterling in the Featherweight division, and vacating or losing the title at UFC 292 will open the door to Merab Dvalishvili, Sterling's long-time teammate, to challenge for UFC gold. Who would you like to see Sterling face in his 145 lbs debut?
