A crazy top-10 matchup between Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker has been booked for UFC Fight Night 226 as the main event on May 13th, Walker confirmed to us after initial reports from Meni Meyer.
This fight takes place in the Light-Heavyweight (205 lbs) division.
Anthony Smith is currently ranked #5 at Light-Heavyweight and holds a record of 36-17 (11-7 UFC), with noteworthy wins over Ryan Spann, Jimmy Crute, and Alexander Gustafsson.
Johnny Walker carries a record of 20-7 (6-4 UFC) and is ranked #7 at Light-Heavyweight. He has notable wins over Paul Craig, Ryan Spann, and Khalil Rountree.
Offical odds have yet to be released.
Anthony Smith will be looking to rebound from a loss to Magomed Ankalaev, which snapped his three-fight win streak. Smith would lose the fight via second-round TKO after sustaining a leg injury and could not defend himself from ground-and-pound strikes. However, the veteran Smith is no stranger to bouncing back from losses, already doing so after suffering defeats from Jon Jones and Glover Texeira, always coming back impressively each time. He'll have an excellent opportunity to rebound in this bout against Walker.
Johnny Walker is currently experiencing a significant career resurgence, after snapping a two-fight skid with back-to-back victories. In his last bout, he took on Paul Craig at UFC 283, securing a first-round KO victory with brutal strikes after knocking Craig down. Before that, he also submitted Ion Cutelaba in the first round with a rear-naked choke at UFC 279. Walker will be looking to use his freakishly athletic abilities to add a third win to his streak and attempt to enter the top five of the division.
