At PFL Europe 1, Cédric Doumbé will make his sophomore PFL appearance, headlining the Accor Arena against equally undefeated talent Baissangour Chamsoudinov, who holds a professional record of 7-0. Ahead of his next fight, "Le Meilleur" (French for "The Best") spoke to the media to discuss his matchup and some recent comments surrounding the MMA world.
One of the more interesting moments of the interview was when Doumbé was asked about his opinions on Benoit Saint-Denis' comments on the face of French MMA, more the fact that "BSD" believed Ciryl Gane to be a bigger superstar than Doumbé.
Another important question for "The Best" was about his future opponents. With the recent PFL acquisition of Bellator, there's a myriad of options available for Doumbé moving forward. However, the Frenchman was dismissively unenticed by anyone on the Bellator roster.
However, there was one opponent that received the callout, but it wasn't to anyone signed with Bellator, or the PFL for that matter. Instead, it was former UFC Champion and now Karate Combat competitor Anthony "Showtime" Pettis who garnered the intrigue of Doumbé. Pettis's most recent bout was a unanimous decision victory over Benson Henderson at Karate Combat 43.
Cédric Doumbé was also full of confidence heading into his sixth professional MMA bout, and dismisses the fans desire to watch his ground game in action.
Finally, when asked about his fight against Chamsoudinov, he believes this matchup is the biggest MMA fight in French MMA history. With it being two Frenchmen fighting in France's largest Arena, there's definitely an argument for it.
You can watch Cédric Doumbé vs. Baissangour Chamsoudinov on March 7th, which goes down in Paris, France with a stacked undercard of French MMA talent. Who do you think will win this matchup? As a member of the Verdict Community, let us know with a comment down below.
