A matchup between Lightweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Beneil Dariush has been reported by wwlmma, sourcing Dariush's manager, Ali Abdelaziz. Location and date TBA.
Poirier and Dariush are both mainstays in the 155 lbs rankings, with Dustin quickly rising to the top after moving up from Featherweight while Dariush had wandered around the top 15 for a few years before finding his stride and putting together the current and biggest win streak of his UFC career.
Poirier's last fight was a title shot against former champion Charles Oliveira in December of 2021. Going into the fight he was riding the momentum of two straight TKO finishes over Conor McGregor earlier that year. He would lose to Oliveira via submission in the 3rd round of the fight. He flirted with the idea of moving up a weight class before beginning to call out fighters in his own division again, looking to get back into the win column.
Dariush is now on a 7-fight win streak with his last being a unanimous decision over Tony Ferguson in May of 2021. He was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachev earlier this year but was forced to pull out due to injury. He will be returning from an extended layoff this fight and has been out of action for over a year.
With the recent title fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev being announced, this fight could produce the next number 1 contender.
