Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal Verbally Agreed
Gilbert Burns told Mike Bohn that he and Jorge Masvidal have come to a verbal fight agreement. The UFC is currently looking at UFC 282 or 283 for the bout.
The heat between Burns and Masvidal has been growing recently as both men seem to be at odds and willing to fight one another. Gibert especially has been calling for the matchup.
Jorge Masvidal's (35-16-0, 12-9 UFC) last fight was a 5-round pay-per-view main event against Colby Covington at UFC 272 in March. It was one of the most heated grudge matches of all time. The two went from living together as best friends and teammates to bitter enemies and spared no love during the buildup to their fight. Although there were close rounds, Colby largely dominated the fight, earning a unanimous decision win to settle the rivalry, or so we thought.
Their feud is not over despite the one-sidedness of their bout. Just weeks after the two fought Masvidal ambushed Covington outside of a Miami restaurant. He punched Covington in the face, shouted a few words, then quickly fled the scene. Masvidal was taken into custody and the two have been in a legal battle ever since.
Gilbert Burns' (20-5, 13-5 UFC) last fight had much less controversy but just as much buzz around it. He fought Khamzat Chimaev in an early Fight of The Year contender at UFC 273 in April of this year. He was a massive underdog heading into the fight and most believed he would be quickly dispatched by the surging Chechen. He proved doubters wrong, though, as he made it a dog fight from the beginning, truly testing Chimaev's chin and heart. In the end, he lost a close unanimous decision but would earn the respect of fans around the world.
Burns would like a win here, but Masvidal truly needs one as he has lost 3 in a row.
