Khamzat Chimaev has missed weight for his PPV main event fight by a whopping 7.5 lbs. The most recorded in any PPV main event.
Chimaev has always been a very large figure for the Welterweight division (170 lbs), but he has never missed weight. He struggled to hit the mark vs. Li Jingliang at UFC 267 last year, but in the end, he did do it.
Chimaev has officially weighed in as high as 198 lbs before, and reports from his camp have revealed he walks around far heavier than that. Light Heavyweight giant Aleksandar Rakic told James Lynch that Chimaev is nearly his size.
Chimaev was not the only fighter to miss weight, however, as Featherweight Hakeem Dawudu and Heavyweight Chris Barnett both failed to make their divisional limits. This card also hosts 3 Catchweight fights.
Ariel Helwani was told that Chimaev's weight miss was due to a medical issue. It's unclear what the issue is and its long-term effects. Further reports saw Chimaev "at a restaurant for hours" the night before weigh-ins indulging in food and sparkling water, seemingly with no intention of making weight.
This card was deemed an unprecedented "sh*t show" by Dana White yesterday, and today it has reached a whole new level.
