Leon Edwards pulled off one of the most incredible upsets in recent memory as he slept Kamaru Usman in the 5th round at UFC 278.
The fight was more than just an upset, it was a comeback. Leon Edwards was down 3-1 on all 3 judges' scorecards. Kamaru Usman was only picking up steam as the fight went on.
Edwards had a very successful 1st round as he took down Usman and held back control for the majority of it. He was the first man to ever take Usman down and constantly threatened submission attempts until the round ended. The next 3 rounds were all champion as he landed crisp strikes and completed 5 takedowns.
Just as Edwards was appearing to be done and fans were leaving the arena in anticipation of the champion retaining, Leon lands a flush head kick that puts Usman to sleep.
This was the 1st knockout loss of Kamaru Usman's career and his 1st ever UFC loss. He was rushed to the hospital immediately after but seems to be well ad has already given a response to the loss.
He appears ready for the rematch and so is Dana White. Dana said in the post-fight press conference that the two will run it back again next year in England, preferably at Wembley Stadium.
