Robert Whittaker fights on home soil against Paulo Costa at UFC 284 on February 11th at the RAC Center in Perth, per the UFC.
This fight will take place in the Middleweight (185 lbs) division.
Robert Whittaker holds a professional record of 25-6-0 and is currently ranked #1 at Middleweight. His notable wins include Yoel Romero, Jacare Souza, and Marvin Vettori.
Paulo Costa holds a professional record of 14-2 and is currently ranked #6 at Middleweight. His notable wins include Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, and Uriah Hall.
Whittaker and Costa were originally scheduled to fight in April of 2021 but Costa withdrew from the bout and in stepped Kelvin Gastelum. Whittaker defeated Gastelum handily and went on to fight Israel Adesanya for the Middleweight title.
‘The Reaper’s’ last fight took place at UFC Paris where he fought Marvin Vettori in the co-main event spot. The first round was close on the Verdict Scorecard but he began to pull away in rounds 2 and 3, hurting his opponent and even landing a takedown.
Paulo Costa is coming off a unanimous decision win over former champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. The bout was an all-out war in which both men left behind everything they had. The Fight of The Year candidate was the first time Rockhold had fought since 2019. It also marked the first time Costa won a fight since that same year.
This is Whittaker’s chance to solidify himself as the next title contender and a chance for Costa to re-enter himself into that conversation.
