A top-15 matchup in the Bantamweight division has just been announced. Song Yadong will headline the UFC's return to China against Chris Gutiérrez on December 9th, first reported by MagicM_MMABets via X (Twitter).
This five-round fight occurs in the Bantamweight (135 lbs) division.
Song Yadong holds a professional record of 20-7-1-1NC (9-2-1 UFC) and is ranked #7 in the Bantamweight division. He holds credible wins over Ricky Simón, Marlon Moraes, and Marlon Vera.
Chris Gutiérrez claims the #14 ranking in the Bantamweight division and holds a professional record of 20-4-2 (8-2-1 UFC). He holds noteworthy victories over Frankie Edgar, Alatengheili, and Timur Valiev.
Official odds have yet to be released.
Song Yadong is coming off his second UFC main event headliner, where he defeated Ricky Simón via fifth-round TKO. Yadong put on an impressive performance, patiently outstriking Simón before dropping him late in the fourth round. Then, he would close the show in the fifth with a knockdown and vicious ground strikes. Now, Yadong looks to headline for the first time in his home country of China, and a victory over Gutiérrez should set him up for a top-5 matchup next.
Chris Gutiérrez is also coming off a victory. After suffering a decision defeat to Pedro Munhoz in April, Gutiérrez rebounded with a shutout win over Alatengheili, destroying him with leg kicks throughout the bout. All three judges have "El Guapo" every round, a shutout unanimous decision win. Now, Gutiérrez aims to propel himself into the top 10 of the division with a win over Yadong in enemy territory.
