We've got some big news in the world of MMA to start this week off. The UFC 298 card, which Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria will headline on February 17th, has received two high-level fights, likely featuring on the main card.
Our first major fight is a highly anticipated matchup in the Bantamweight division. Former two-division UFC Champion Henry Cejudo looks to get his first victory since 2020 against the #2 contender Merab Dvalishvili, per Henry Cejudo via YouTube.
Merab Dvalishvili arguably should be fighting for a title, but instead, he's taking another fight vs. a top contender. The #2 ranked Bantamweight is riding a nine-fight win streak, including wins over Petr Yan, Jose Aldo, John Dodson, and Marlon Moraes. A win over Cejudo sets him up for a title fight next, making him the next opponent for the winner of Sean O'Malley vs. Marlon Vera.
Henry Cejudo is the #3 ranked Bantamweight, coming off a split-decision loss to the former Champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288. The fight was competitive across all the rounds, but ultimately, Cejudo was outworked by Sterling. Still, his performance was impressive as he snapped a three-year layoff since "retiring" in 2020. He now looks to get back into the title picture with a with over Dvalishvili.
The second fight will be between fan-favorite Heavyweight Tai Tuivasa and Polish contender Marcin Tybura, per Marcel Dorff. Tuivasa is riding a rough three-fight losing streak, being finished by Ciryl Gane, Serghei Pavlovich, and Alexander Volkov. On the other hand, Tybura is coming off a loss to Tom Aspinall, but before that was riding a two-fight win streak. This is an important fight in the division to test both guys and see where they are.
