The UFC is back in action after a thrilling UFC 292 event as they take the event to Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore Singapore. The main event features former Featherweight champion Max Holloway as he enters enemy territory and faces Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie). The co-main event features a top-ten matchup in the Light Heavyweight division, a rematch between the two fighters. Let's preview the main card for UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie.
The main card opens up with a clash in the Heavyweight division. Junior Tafa is in unfamiliar waters as he suffered his first professional loss in his prior fight with Mohammed Usman. He will be going into this fight seeking to get back into the win column and get back on track. Tafa has a 100% finish rate, as all his finishes are by KO/TKO. On the flip side, Parker Porter is coming off a thrilling win. He finished Braxton Smith in the first round at UFC 288, improving his record to 13-8. Fans should expect fireworks to open up a great main card.
This bout between Erin Blanchfield and Talia Santos is a fight that should be headlining a non-pay-per-view event. There is an argument to be made that Blanchfield is the best Women's Flyweight in the UFC despite not having the belt. She is on an eight-fight winning streak and submitted Jessica Andrade in the second round in her previous fight. If Alexa Grasso had not booked Valentina Shevchenko for a rematch, Blanchfield would have been in line for the next title shot. She takes on a former title challenger in Santos, who will not back down. The winner of this fight should be guaranteed a title fight as this is a top-five bout between two of the best in the world. Blanchfield is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the division, but Santos looks to make it challenging for the young fighter. Superb matchmaking by the UFC matchmakers for this one!
An interesting one takes place here as the undefeated fighter out of Japan, Rinya Nakamura, makes his return to the octagon after defeating Toshiomi Kazama in February of 2023. Out of his seven wins, Nakamura has finished six opponents. Many fight fans have had their eye on him as he is a fast finisher. Nakamura has five finishes in the first round and will look to add to that total. On the flip side, Fernie Garcia looks to play spoiler. After defeating Joshua Weems in his Dana White Contender Series debut, Garcia has lost back-to-back fights in the UFC. With a professional record of 10-3, this would be the biggest win of his career if he can get it done.
After not fighting for nearly 20 months, Giga Chikadze returns to the octagon after suffering that brutal loss to Calvin Kattar in January of 2022. Before that fight, Chikadze was on a roll, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the division. He was on a nine-fight winning streak and defeating fighters like Cub Swanson and Edson Barboza. Chikadze will enter the fight seeking to get back into the win column over No. 15 ranked contender Alex Caceres. Caceres has always been a unique problem to opposing Featherweight's. He brings a unique style into the octagon and utilizes his length to his advantage. Caceres entered the Featherweight rankings after winning back-to-back fights. This should be another great fight between two exciting styles.
The co-main event features Anthony Smith and Ryan Spann as they will again be locked in the octagon. The first fight between the two took place in September of 2021. Coincidentally enough, Smith's last win was over Spann when he submitted him in the second round. Since then, Smith has suffered back-to-back losses to Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker. "Lionheart" is one of the more respected veterans in the UFC and will try to repeat what he did in the first fight against Spann. On the other side, Spann bounced back significantly since the loss. He defeated Ion Cutelaba in the first round via submission and defeated Dominick Reyes in the first round via knockout. He was 2-0 in 2022 but started the following year on a bad foot. Spann lost to Nikita Krylov via submission in the very first round. Both fighters look to get back into the win column in a rematch they wanted. This co-main event will have significant implications for the Light Heavyweight division.
The main event features two fan favorites in the Featherweight division. Fighting close to home, The Korean Zombie will be the crowd favorite, and rightfully so. The reason the UFC took the event to Singapore was because of Chan Sung Jung. He will take on the No. 1 ranked contender as Max Holloway looks to play spoiler in enemy territory. Holloway enters the fight as a massive betting favorite, and for good reason. He still looks great after defeating Arnold Allen in his prior fight. If it weren't for Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway would be the Featherweight champion. On the flip side, The Korean Zombie returns to the octagon after taking 16 months off. He last fought at UFC 273 when he lost to the champ in brutal fashion. It was a standing TKO win for Volkanovski after four terrorizing rounds. The Korean Zombie looks to flip the script in front of his people against one of the best Featherweight's of all time. This main event is star-studded with a couple of the best fighters the Featherweight division has ever seen.
