The UFC is back at the Apex this week, and the main event will feature a Heavyweight rematch between Marcin Tybura and Serghei Spivak. I've gone over my prediction for that matchup and my best bets from the entire card, so let's get into it.

Odds provided by Duelbits accurate as of 8/8/2024

Macrin Tybura +130 vs. Serghei Spivak -159

This is a Heavyweight rematch coming four years after Tybura won the first matchup. Marcin Tybura has proven to be a tough and well-rounded guy for the division; he has decent boxing and a heavy top game that helped him finish Tai Tuivasa in round one. Serghei Spivak is a high-paced wrestler with a good set of takedowns and an improving striking arsenal, although his cardio is a concern for a five-round fight.

I took Spivak here as I believe he has drastically improved since the first fight between the two, and the age gap now favors him more, with Tybura nearing the end of his career and Spivak entering his prime years.

Prediction: Spivak by 3rd Round TKO

Chepe Mariscal -244 vs. Damon Jackson +190

All action Featherweights square off in this fun co-main event clash. Chepe Mariscal has started off hot in the UFC, having shown the striking ability to compete at a high pace and using his grappling skills to get a decision over Morgan Charriere in his last fight. Damon Jackson is a long grappler with a solid submission game, but great control on the ground is his best weapon, although he does slow down at times and has been knocked out by hard hitters.

I'll go with Jackson at this price. I see this as a very close fight, and Jackson will have success on the ground, which he can use to win a decision.

Prediction: Jackson by Decision

Danny Barlow -370 vs. Nikolay Veretennikov +285

A Welterweight prospect that has many fans excited will look to collect another highlight here. Danny Barlow is an undefeated striker with most of his wins coming by devastating knockout, including his UFC debut, where he brutalized Josh Quinlan until a merciful stoppage, showing he carries his power late in fights and can handle UFC-level competition. Nikolay Veretennikov makes his debut here coming off three straight knockout wins; his record is rather ugly, but most of his losses are from very early in his career, and he went to decision with another highly touted prospect in Michael Morales on the Contender Series.

This is another good spot for Barlow to grow, and I expect him to easily handle the test and score another knockout win here.

Prediction: Barlow by 2nd Round KO

Chris Guttierez -556 vs. Quang Le +390

Short notice replacement saves this matchup at Bantamweight. Chris Guttierez is a solid veteran known for solid leg kicks and durability, although he showed some questionable fight IQ in his last fight against Song Yadong. Quang Le is an undefeated finisher coming in on short notice off two straight first-round knockouts, although he also has some submission wins early in his career.

Guttierez should take this one as he is the much more experienced fighter with much more success, having gone the distance against more experienced competition.

Prediction: Guttierez by 3rd Round TKO

Yana Santos -143 vs. Chelsea Chandler +116

Women's Bantamweights are looking to push their way into the rankings in a very open division here. Yana Santos comes into this one having lost three straight and been off for over a year; however, she looks to be in fantastic shape and will look to return to form with her solid striking base. Chelsea Chandler is a strong and tough grappler who looks to build off her win over Josiane Nunes with her heavy top pressure although, her striking isn't great, Norma Dumont has hurt her badly.

I'll pick Santos here as she has faced much tougher competition over her career and should have the grappling skills to keep this fight where she wants it.

Prediction: Santos by Decision

Charalampos Grigoriou -256 vs. Toshiomi Kazama +200

Bantamweights are both looking to pick up their first UFC win clash here. Charalampos Grigoriou looks to bounce back from a tough debut against Chad Anheliger, where he was outlasted by the vet and bested, although he did show some skills early in the fight with big strikes and some ground control, proving he has some potential at this level. Toshiomi Kazama has had a rough start to his UFC career, having been knocked out in the first round twice, showing little ability to get the fight to the ground, and struggling when inevitably forced to stand and strike.

I've got Grigoriou here. He has the skills to easily defend the takedowns and overwhelm Kazama on the feet to get an early knockout win.

Prediction: Grigoriou by 1st Round TKO

Karol Rosa -213 vs. Pannie Kianzad +170

Bantamweights both coming off losses look to get back on track in this pivotal clash. Karol Rosa comes into this one after a crazy fight with Irene Aldana, in which she showed her toughness and solid striking against one of the best in the division. Pannie Kianzad looks to get back in the win column here, having lost three of her last four, although all against top contenders and current champion Raquel Pennington.

I lean towards Rosa here as she will have a slight advantage striking and on the ground, which will help her take home a decision win.

Prediction: Rosa by Decision

Karl Williams -208 vs. Jhonata Diniz +165

Clash of styles here in this very intriguing Heavyweight bout. Karl Williams is a very good wrestler for the division, having used his top control to dominate each of his UFC opponents so far. Jhonata Diniz is a powerful and dangerous kickboxer coming off a debut win over Austen Lane, where he showed his power after being taken down and controlled for the first round, which is a massive concern as Lane is not the highest caliber grappler.

This is a horrible matchup for Diniz, as Williams will have a massive advantage on the ground, which I expect him to use throughout the fight to dominate and negate the threat of striking.

Prediction: Williams by Decision

Jarno Errens +330 vs. Youssef Zalal -455

Fans can expect a firefight at Featherweight here as this fun matchup helps get the card started. Jarno Errens is a hard-hitting kickboxer coming off his first win in the UFC with an impressive performance against Steven Nguyen, where he showed the ability to keep pressure on for three hard rounds. Youssef Zalal looks to build off his strong return to the UFC, where he dominated Billy Quarantillo in every aspect and extended his finish streak to four fights since the end of his first run at this level.

I've got Zalal here as I believe he can handle Errens' striking and mix in some grappling to control the fight.

Prediction: Zalal by Decision
