The UFC returns to the Apex this weekend with a deep card of action headlined by Welterweight action as Vicente Luque -105 taking on Rafael Dos Anjos -122. This card also features a Featherweight firefight between two highly touted prospects Francis Marshall -169 and Isaac Dulgarian +132. I went over every fight on the entire card and gave out my predictions so let’s get into it.

Odds Provided by Stake.com Accurate as of 8/10/2023 5:20 PM EST

Vicente Luque -105 vs. Rafael Dos Anjos -122

The Welterweight headliner features two gritty veterans who are no strangers to fight of the night honours. Vicente Luque returns to action here and despite some health concerns, he remains one of the most feared finishers in the division with sharp striking with a tremendous left hook and a nasty choke game that has ended several opponents’ nights. Rafael Dos Anjos continues his Welterweight run here and looks to use his well-rounded game yet again here to pressure his opponent with high-pace takedowns and a heavy top game.

I’ve got Luque here as I think he has the ground game to keep this fight standing enough to land damaging shots on the aging RDA, which will result in a knockout win.

Pick: Luque O/U: Under 4.5 -143

Cub Swanson +180 vs. Hakeem Dawodu -238

A legend returns to Featherweight here in a good clash of experienced strikers. Cub Swanson moves back up in weight and will look to use his slick movement and speed to return to form after a tough last showing against Johnathan Martinez. Hakeem Dawodu has struggled with consistency at times during his UFC run but is very tough and hits hard.

I like Dawodu here as I think we have seen the best days of Swanson and when Dawodu is on he can land punishing shots.

Pick: Dawodu O/U: Under 2.5 +102

Khalil Rountree -192 vs. Chris Daukaus +148

An intriguing matchup of Light Heavyweights looking to move up in the division here. Khalil Rountree is a very hard hitter who can be low volume at times in his fights but if he is on and landing, he is very likely to knockout a lot of people at the weight class. Chris Daukaus drops down in weight here after suffering several knockout losses in a row, at Heavyweight he had fast hands although that may not translate as he moves down.

I took Rountree here as I think he has the power to get a knockout, and I took his round two prop specifically as two of his last three fights have resulted in him winning by round two knockouts, giving me the feeling there is value there.

Pick: Rountree O/U: Under 1.5 -169

Polyana Viana +150 vs. Iasmin Lucindo -196

Good matchup of young Strawweights here with bright futures. Polyana Viana is a very high-level submission artist who has also developed her striking a lot. Iasmin Lucindo has looked tremendous so far during her UFC career despite just an even record with a win and a loss she has proven to have a very powerful striking game and she used her grappling to dominate Brogan Walker in her last matchup.

I’ve got Lucindo here as I think she is a very bright prospect with a well-rounded game that I think she will use to defend the submission attack of Viana and dominate.

Pick: Lucindo O/U: Over 2.5 -179

Tafon Nchukwi -152 vs. AJ Dobson +118

Middleweights looking to end their losing streaks clash in this one. Tafon Nchukwi moves down in weight here after losing back-to-back fights by knockout, he is a solid striker who has displayed solid skills, especially against the very impressive Azamat Murzakanov. AJ Dobson was a guy I liked a lot coming into the UFC although he has struggled in his first two fights being both outstruck and out-wrestled while being unable to implement a successful gameplan of his own in both his losses.

I lean Nchukwi here as he has shown a higher ceiling, although, with his recent results and his weight moving down, he is hard to trust.

Pick: Nchukwi O/U: Over 2.5 -105

Josh Fremd -357 vs. Jamie Pickett +260

Two athletic Middleweights square off here to open the main card. Josh Fremd enters this off a great win over Sedriques Dumas where he showed his power and ground game to get the finish. Jamie Pickett has a good build for the weight class although he has not impressed me much over his UFC run having tough fights with guys who are not very good.

I’ll go with Fremd here as he has shown explosive finishing ability that I believe will be too much for Pickett.

Pick: Fremd O/U: Over 1.5 -167

Marcus McGhee -385 vs. JP Buys +275

Fun matchup at Bantamweight that should be fireworks for as long as it lasts. Marcus McGhee makes his second appearance here after his impressive short-notice debut win over Journey Newson where he came in on just days’ notice and got the finish. JP Buys has had a rough run in the UFC so far having lost both of his Flyweight bouts via finish and getting dropped in a tough matchup against Montel Jackson, still, he has shown a dangerous submission game and he is very aggressive with it.

This price is way too wide, and because of that, I’m on Buys here as I think he has a solid chance to lock in an early submission here against an overvalued McGhee.

Pick: Buys O/U: Under 1.5 -139

Terrance McKinney -286 vs. Mike Breeden +215

Short notice replacement fight here at Lightweight. Terrance McKinney is an all-action offensive weapon with crazy power and a strong wrestling game, particularly a great back take although he struggles when fights go past the first round. Mike Breeden looks to get his first UFC win here after showing his toughness in his last fight against Natan Levy, he has decent offensive striking and has never been submitted as a pro.

McKinney should win this fight early as he has the power and skill to do so, however, if he doesn’t this fight could get interesting. With that, I’m still picking McKinney but I have no interest in laying this price.

Pick: McKinney O/U: Under 1.5 -323

Francis Marshall -169 vs. Isaac Dulgarian +132

An absolute must-see matchup between two solid prospects at Featherweight. Francis Marshall has shown some good things so far since joining the UFC with a solid ground game and toughness, although he is rather hittable and low volume at times. Isaac Dulgarian enters this with a perfect record where he has dominated all his opposition in under half a round, his wrestling game is very explosive and he immediately hunts the finish when he gets his opponent down.

This fight is going to be crazy and with all of Dulgarian’s fights being around or under half a round I am taking the under here over any individual fighter. I’ll pick Marshall as I feel he is more proven but I am expecting chaos.

Pick: Marshall O/U: Under 2.5 -159

Josh Parisian +170 vs. Martin Buday -222

Classic Heavyweight slugfest here. Josh Parisian is a durable vet who has been a solid test to see where young prospects are at. Martin Buday looks to continue his unbeaten UFC run here, he has yet to get a finish in the promotion but had Chris Barnett badly hurt several times.

I’ll pick Buday here as I just feel he is better everywhere against an unimpressive Parisian who is not getting better at this point.

Pick: Buday O/U: Over 2.5 -135

Monserrat Ruiz +195 vs. Jaqueline Amorim -256

Strawweight grapplers collide in this interesting matchup. Monserrat Ruiz returns here after a tough loss to now title challenger Amanda Lemos her last time out, she has a good grappling game and is very aggressive but also hittable. Jaqueline Amorim had a rough debut after seemingly securing the finish in round one then gassing out and nearly being finished by Sam Hughes however, she did show her submission game is a very real threat in that fight.

I think Amorim can secure an early submission here as I believe this one will hit the ground and Amorim is simply better there.

Pick: Amorim O/U: Under 2.5 -161

Da’Mon Blackshear -256 vs. Jose Johnson +195

Short notice matchup here early on the card at Bantamweight. Da’Mon Blackshear is a very athletic grappler coming off an impressive stoppage win. Jose Johnson steps in here for his UFC debut after some delays, he is very tall for the weight class with power in his hands and a solid choke game.

I like Blackshear here as I think he will be able to withstand the power of Johnson and have the wrestling and submission advantage.

Pick: Blackshear O/U: Over 2.5 +120

Juliana Miller +121 vs. Luana Santos -156

Flyweight prospects kick off the card here. Juliana Miller looks to bounce back from a tough performance against Veronica Hardy, she won the ultimate fighter using her aggressive grappling attack and high-level jiu-jitsu skills. Luana Santos makes her debut here with an impressive run outside the UFC, showing solid striking and good enough grappling to compete at a high-level.

I’ll take Miller here as I like her aggression and think she can keep a higher pace than Santos.

Pick: Miller O/U: Over 2.5 -217
