Edition 56October 6, 2023

Surprise. We've officially partnered with ONE Championship, and you can make your picks for tonight's ONE Fight Night 15 card.

1
Islam Makhachev hopes Colby Covington beats Leon Edwards

Why? Colby Covington recently said he'd welcome a Champion vs. Champion fight against Islam Makhachev after he fights Leon Edwards. Leon hasn't called out Islam the way Colby has, so he sees a path to the Welterweight title against Colby.

How possible is it? With UFC 300 approaching, a Champion vs. Champion fight of this magnitude could headline the card, assuming Islam and Colby win their next fights. It would be a dream match-up of an American wrestler vs. a Russian wrestler.

2
Alexa Grasso teases a trilogy against Valentina Shevchenko

Details: Alexa Grasso posted a picture on Instagram after getting hand surgery with the caption, "I know I'll be mega ready for the trilogy" in Spanish. She fractured her hand in her rematch against Shevhenko.

When will the trilogy happen? Both Grasso and Shevchenko are sidelined right now with hand injuries. There's no timeline for the fight, but the UFC is planning a trip to Mexico in 2024, and it makes a lot of sense to save the trilogy fight for that event.

3
Jake Shields is charged with misdemeanor battery for attacking Mike Jackson

What happened? Shields whooped Jackson at the UFC Apex after the two had been going back and forth on Twitter, discussing politics. Shields incriminated himself by posting the video of the whooping on Twitter.

Possible consequences: If Shields gets convicted of his charges, he could face up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.

4
An update on the Conor McGregor/Michael Chandler fight

The update: Chandler doesn't think he'll fight Conor McGregor until at least UFC 300. He will continue to wait for McGregor to come back and fight.

USADA situation: McGregor posted on Instagram that he submitted his 'stuff' to Jeff Novitzky, indicating that he has re-entered the USADA testing pool. If true, the timing works out perfectly, as he'll be able to compete at UFC 300.

5
Manel Kape refused Israel Adesanya's apology at UFC 293

The beef: Kape was talking smack to Adesanya's teammate Kai Kara France at the UFC 293 pre-fight press conference for pulling out of their scheduled fight. Adesanya stepped in and told Kape to calm down, which didn't work. Kape started talking smack back to Izzy.

Backstage incident: Adesanya approached Kape backstage and tried to squash the beef, letting Kape know that the two were African brothers. Kape refused the apology and told him that they were not brothers.

6
Derek Brunson signs with the PFL

Details: Brunson's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, confirmed this week that Derek Brunson signed with the PFL and will compete in the promotion's Light Heavyweight division.

PFL debut: It's unclear when Brunson will step into the PFL cage, but Abdelaziz said before the end of the year. That could mean he'll compete on the PFL Championship card on November 24th.

7
A UFC event could be coming to the Sphere in Las Vegas

What Sphere: It's a new arena in Las Vegas that's gone viral since opening last week. It's a state-of-the-art arena that's built for musical and entertainment events.

UFC at the Sphere: Dana White spoke highly about the Sphere this past Tuesday after the Contender Series and said he's interested in hosting the next Mexican Independence Day event at the venue.
