The way Jon Jones submitted Ciryl Gane stunned a lot of people, including his former rival Daniel Cormier. People expected the fight to be competitive but we got a blowout instead. Jones came back after three years and submitted the Heavyweight division’s top contender in two minutes and four seconds. You could see the disbelief on the faces of Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier from the booth reaction video. Jon Anik immediately referred to Jones as the greatest of all-time and Rogan called him the GOAT during the post-fight interview.
During his show DC & RC with Ryan Clark, Cormier said he couldn’t consider Jones the GOAT. “I think it’s hard to really argue the greatest of all time when Jones has now gone up to heavyweight and won the championship because of what he did at light heavyweight,” Cormier said. “I think especially with the drugs and the steroid failures and those types of things. I think when you have those things, it’s hard to call you the greatest of all time”. Cormier also stated that he doesn't think Jones should be ranked above Alex Volkanovski as the pound-for-pound #1 fighter in the world.
Lee Muray has one of the most interesting stories in combat sports history and it will finally be told in a 4 part documentary series by Showtime Sports on April 7. Directed by two-time Emmy winner Pat Kondelis, the series titled Catching Lightning will chronicle “Lightening” Lee Murray’s story of fighting in the UFC and his role in one of the largest bank robberies in history with £52,996,760 in cash stolen. That’s the equivalent of $92 Million USD.
Less than two years before the bank robbery, Lee Murray fought Anderson Silva in Cage Rage and lost a decision. Murray competed in the UFC once, submitting Jorge Rivera in the 1st round at UFC 46. He made his entrance to the Octagon wearing a Hannibal Lecter mask and felt like a star. He’s also rumored to have knocked out Tito Ortiz in a street fight outside a London nightclub in 2002. If he stayed on track, he might have been the UFC’s first big British star.
