We’re working on something big that you’ll see in the app soon. We’re finally going to have a place for the community to congregate. Stay tuned.

1
Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira 2 is official

When and where: UFC President Dana White announced on Wednesday that the rematch between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira will headline UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on October 21st. The event will take place at the Etihad Arena, where Oliveira lost his title to Makhachev last year.

Didn’t Oliveira need more time? That’s what he said earlier this month. Oliveira told TSN that fighting in October would be too soon for him, especially since the fight would be in Abu Dhabi. Ready or not, the UFC got the deal done, and the fight is happening.

2
Dricus Du Plessis is bailing on UFC 293

What happened? Israel Adesanya posted a video on Twitter revealing that Dricus Du Plessis isn’t accepting the highly anticipated title fight on September 10th at UFC 293 because he needs more time. The plan was always for Izzy to fight the winner of Whittaker vs. Du Plessis in Australia on that date, but DDP isn’t accepting the fight.

Izzy’s next opponent: Adesanya said in the video that he’ll be fighting Sean Strickland in Australia instead. Though this isn’t the fight everyone expected, you can expect a heated build-up between Adesanya and Strickland, as the two have talked smack with each other in the past.

3
Umar Nurmagomedov has pulled out of his fight against Cory Sandhagen

What happened? Umar suffered a serious shoulder injury while sparring, forcing him out of his main event slot against Cory Sandhagen on August 5th. He’ll need surgery for this injury. This is a serious blow to Umar, as this fight was booked to propel him to the top of the Bantamweight division.

The replacement: Rob Font is stepping in to fight Sandhagen on short notice. Font is coming off of a 1st round knockout win against Adrian Yanez.

4
Paddy Pimblett doesn’t want to get fat in between fights anymore

Why? He’s taking his career more seriously and wants to be ranked by the end of 2024. Pimblett no longer wants to eat 8,000 calories per day after his fights and never wants to go above 200 lbs again.

When is he returning? Six months according to an interview he did with SLOTHBOXX. He’s been sidelined since December after suffering an ankle injury in his fight against Jared Gordon at UFC 282.

5
Michael Venom Page is a free agent

What happened with Bellator? There are a lot of changes coming to Bellator real soon, with a potential sale looming. Resigning MVP slipped through the cracks for Bellator, and he’s now a free agent after competing with the promotion for 10 years.

Where will he fight next? There are several options in MMA, including the UFC, the PFL, and ONE Championship. That said, don’t be surprised if you see MVP signing with a boxing promotion to fight other influencers. He’s good friends with KSI, the founder of Misfits Boxing.

6
Conor McGregor avoids being swept on the Ultimate Fighter

What McGregor’s team avoided: They avoided being the first team in the history of The Ultimate Fighter to get swept during a Season.

Who saved them? Rico DiSciullo ended the team’s losing streak by dropping Hunter Azure with a punch and then finishing him with a vicious double-hammer fist. It’s the first time in UFC history that this technique stopped a fight.

7
Khamzat Chimaev returns to the UFC in October

Against who, when, and where: Khamzat will make his long-awaited return to action at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi against Paulo Costa on October 21st. With the fight signed, this might be the end of Khamzat’s run in the Welterweight division.

The stakes: This is a massive fight with the winner putting themselves very close to a Middleweight title shot. With Sean Strickland and DDP looking like the next challengers for Israel Adesanya, the winner might have to compete once more after this fight.
