Brian Ortega revealed an injury he suffered 3 weeks before the fight

The injury: During grappling training, Brian Ortega suffered a laceration over his right eye three weeks out from his fight against Yair Rogriguez. His coach, Rener Gracie, said the cut needed four stitches, and he gave Ortega the option of pulling out of the fight.

Fight Night Injury: The cut didn’t give him problems against Yair Rodriguez, but Ortega did have another obstacle to overcome. He rolled his ankle while Bruce Buffer was introducing him. Despite a rolled ankle and a tough first round, Ortega ended up finishing Rodriguez in the 3rd round.

2
Israel Adesanya Says DDP didn't want to fight him on UFC 300

Context: On Theo Von’s podcast, Israel Adesanya said he'd received a call from the UFC to headline UFC 300 on April 13th. He accepted but hinted that du Plessis did not, citing injuries from the Sean Strickland fight as the main reason.

What's next? If the UFC wanted to book that fight for 300, the chances are it would still happen at a later date. It could fall on International Fight Week (UFC 302) as the main event.

3
Alexander Volkanovski Opens Up About Future Plans

Volkanovski's statement: The former Featherweight Champion took to his YouTube channel to release a longer statement a couple of weeks after his loss to Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski will take some time off from the sport to "let the head rest," but he vowed his return fight would be for a title.

When could he return? Alexander Volkanovski has always been an active fighter, but it will help him to take some time off here. "The Great" didn't give an exact date, but it's safe to assume we won't see him until the end of 2024 or even 2025.

4
Jorge Masvidal went to Stockton to look for Nate Diaz

Why? Masvidal is angling for a fight against Nate Diaz. There have been rumors of a potential fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal in a boxing ring. Their first fight at UFC 244 ended anti-climactically, so there have been a lot of people who want to see a rematch.

Can it happen? It depends on if Jorge Masvidal is able to get out of his contract. Nate Diaz is free and clear to do whatever he wants, wherever he wants. Masvidal has eluded to the fact that the UFC will allow him to box elsewhere but not compete in MMA elsewhere.

5
Paulo Costa Wants To Fight at UFC 301

What Costa said: Following his decision loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC 298, Costa had an interview with The Schmo to discuss his plans. Although he usually fights once a year, "The Eraser" stated he wants to fight on the UFC 301 PPV, which is held in his home country of Brazil.

Potential opponents? The Middleweight division is wide open for Costa. He's already called out Khamzat Chimaev, as the pair were supposed to fight at UFC 294. In addition, Kamaru Usman has been named as a possible opponent.

6
Mike Perry's Next Fight Is Official

Details: Per BKFC, Mike Perry will headline KnuckleMania 4 against Thiago Alves on April 27th, 2024. The fight will be five two-minute rounds contested in the Middleweight division.

Tale of the tape: Mike Perry is 4-0 in BKFC with two stoppages and is the symbolic "King of Violence" Champion, a title he achieved after defeating Eddie Alvarez. Thiago Alves is a fellow MMA and UFC veteran and is 2-0 in BKFC with a stoppage victory against Ulysses Diaz.

7
The Raul Rosas Jr Vs. Ricky Turcios Drama

The story: At UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Royval 2, Raul Rosas Jr was supposed to fight Ricky Turcios in a three-round Bantamweight fight. However, as the event unfolded, the bout was scrapped from the card due to Rosas Jr pulling out of the fight because of an illness.

What happened next? After the event, Dana White confirmed that the fight had been rescheduled a week later, on March 2nd, as a part of the main card. Turcios, however, revealed that nothing was signed on his end, but he agreed to take the fight. The story since has fizzled out, and the two will not be fighting this weekend.
