Edition 58October 20, 2023

We’re hosting the first-ever AMA in the Fight Forum with the legendary Dan Henderson 1 hour before the UFC 294 main card. This is your opportunity to speak with one of the greatest fighter of all-time.

1
The UFC extends its partnership with Abu Dhabi until 2028

The details: The UFC will continue to bring one PPV event featuring a Championship fight to Abu Dhabi every year until 2028. In addition to the PPV events, the UFC will host Fight Night events across the Middle East and North Africa region.

Their history: The UFC and Abu Dhabi have been working together since 2010 when Flash Entertainment purchased 10% of the UFC between $150 million and $175 million. Flash Entertainment was wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi government and sold its stock to Endeavor in 2018.

2
Conor McGregor’s sexual assault charges have been dropped

The allegations: McGregor was accused of "violently" forcing himself on a woman and kissing her in a VIP bathroom during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. McGregor immediately denied the allegations.

His attorney’s statement: “After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor. On behalf of my client, his family and his fans we are pleased this is now over.”

3
The UFC released 9 fighters from their roster

The fighters: John Makdessi, Andre Fialho, Hannah Goldy, JP Buys, Carl Deaton, A.J. Fletcher, Kamuela Kirk, Tucker Lutz and Shane Young.

The most notable fighter: Makdessi has been competing in the UFC for 13 years. He made his debut at UFC 124, a card headlined by Georges St-Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck 2.

4
Mayra Bueno Silva’s win against Holly Holm has been overturned

Overturned to what? Silva originally had a submission win on her official record against Holly Holm. The result has been overturned to a no contest.

Why? In a pre-fight drug screening, her results indicated the presence of ritalinic acid, a primary urinary byproduct of methylphenidate, a medication more commonly recognized as Ritalin and frequently prescribed for managing ADHD.

5
Khamzat Chimaev and Islam Makhachev believe their opponents are fighting for money

Khamzat’s theory: He believes that Usman already has a built-in excuse if he loses and believes that whoever he fights makes big money. He still thinks that Usman is coming to win.

Islam’s theory: It’s similar to Khamzat’s. He believes that Volkanovski isn’t taking any risks, especially because his belt isn’t on the line. He thinks this is just an opportunity for Volkanovski to come in for a payday.

6
Walt Harris suspended by the NAC for 1 year

Why? Walt Harris received a one-year suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to a recent positive drug test for drostanolone, an illicit anabolic substance. Harris' out-of-competition drug screening on June 24 revealed the presence of drostanolone, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled fight against Josh Parisian on July 15.

Walt’s future: All 13 of his wins have come by knockout. Unfortunately, he hasn’t won a fight since July of 2019 and has been finished by TKO in his last 3 fights. He’ll be 41 years old by the time he’s eligible to compete again.

7
Mike Perry vs. Eddie Alvarez will compete in a bare-knuckle fight

The details: The two will headline BKFC 56 in Salt Lake City on December 6th in what’s being referred to as the biggest BKFC card of all-time.

Other notable fights: Ben Rothwell vs. Todd Duffee and Jeremy Stephens vs. Jimmie Rivera.
