Ranking every double champion in UFC history based only on their first title win in each division
10. Jon Jones: Shogun Rua (2011) and Ciryl Gane (2023) People pleasing with this one. Jon is the GOAT but looking purely at his 2 first titles in each division it is not the strongest. Shogun is a legend and a great win, but probably barely a top 10 LHW all time imo. Gane was cherry picked by Jones, and although I think it is an underrated win, definitely not the best in terms of legacy. He destroyed Gane to be fair and violently finished Shogun in round 3, so method of victory is on his side. Even still, looking at the other names on this list I do think he is last place. 9. Randy Coture: Maurice Smith (1997) and Tito Ortiz (2003) Maurice Smith was the second ever UFC champion. He didn’t have that many UFC fights and it is hard to compare guys from this era to modern day, but I still think he’s one of the lesser wins on this list. Tito Ortiz is a great win and a top 5 all time LHW for sure. Couture beat them both by decision, so not the best method of victory for either. He’s an under appreciated legend, but I don’t think I can put him higher on this list. 8. BJ Penn: Matt Hughes (2004) and Joe Stevenson (2008) BJ is very hard to place on this list for me. Matt Hughes is the clear #2 WW all time in my mind and a great win. Joe Stevenson is a former TUF winner who got rushed to a vacant title match against BJ Penn and had a bad career after. BJ has one of the better wins on this list and also maybe the worst win on this list. He won by submission in round 1 and round 2, respectively, which is great but still I can’t convince myself that his Hughes win carries him higher than this. 7. Alex Pereira: Israel Adesanya (2022) and Jiri Prochazka (2023) Israel Adesanya is undoubtedly a top 3 MW of all time. Alex capped off a back and forth battle with a knockout at the end of round 2. Jiri Prochazka is a former LHW champ and is still a top contender in the division. Alex knocked him out in the second round. Jiri has the potential to age very well as a win, but as it sits it’s a decent win in terms of this list. Israel is a great win, but overrated in my opinion, especially with how close that fight was. 6. Amanda Nunes: Miesha Tate (2016) and Cris Cyborg (2018) Let me get the elephant out of the room. I very easily could put this at 10 without a second thought because WMMA wins don’t compare to MMMA wins, and I’m sure many of you want me to do that. I will pretend for the sake of this list that they do compare though, simply because it is more interesting and fun that way in my opinion. Meisha Tate is a fine win, not the best. Amanda finished her in 3 minutes and she was in her prime, so whatever. Cris Cyborg is the #2 WMMA athlete all time in my opinion. I think there was literally no better win possible for Amanda to get than that. She knocked her out in less than a minute on top of that, truly the most impressive WMMA performance of all time. This carries the meh Meisha Tate win hard, and honestly could be higher on the list if I didn’t feel like that would be blasphemy. 5. Georges St Pierre: Matt Hughes (2006) and Michael Bisping (2017) The second best UFC fighter all time, but not on this list. Matt Hughes returns as a win on this list, again a great win. Michael Bisping was a cherry picked matchup against a guy with 1 eye who was very overrated in the first place imo. GSP beat Matt Hughes by KO in the second round. GSP submitted Bisping in the third round of a back and forth fight. Bisping is arguably the worst MW champion of all time imo and was past his prime, but he is better than some of the wins below, and Matt Hughes win carries. 4. Conor McGregor: Jose Aldo (2015) and Eddie Alvarez (2016) The man who coined the term Double Champ. Everyone below this point is pretty similar in my mind, but this top 4 are clearly leagues above the rest. Jose Aldo is an all time great. Conor starched him in 13 seconds. A very fantastic title win, not much else to say. Eddie Alvarez is a former LW champion who has had a very up and down career, and Conor knocked him out in round 2. It’s a fine win, but Conor is rightfully carried to this spot off his Aldo win. 3. Daniel Cormier: Rumble Johnson (2015) and Stipe Miocic (2018) Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is a fighter with a very underrated resume and is one of the best UFC fighters to never win a title. Rumble had some big moments early but DC ended up submitting him in the third round. He did this at the age of 36. Stipe Miocic is the greatest HW to compete in the UFC. DC knocked prime Stipe out in the first round when he was 39 YEARS OLD. One of the craziest title fights ever, DC sits comfortably in the top 3 of this list. 2. Ilia Topuria: Alexander Volkanovski (2024) and Charles Oliveira (2025) Alexander Volkanovski is the best FW fighter in history and a top 10 UFC fighter all time. Ilia flatlined him in the second round. Volk was 35 and coming off a bad knockout loss a few months prior, but went on to win back his title after Ilia vacated. So clearly, you can’t say he was very far from prime if at all, even though he definitely took the fight too quickly. Charles Oliveira is a top 3 LW all time and former champion. He didn’t deserve the shot for the vacant title against Ilia, and time will tell how in his prime he still is. Ilia flatlined him in half a round (hopefully you all remember, not that long ago). This is a very good win, even if it ages somewhat poorly after Charles fights next. 1. Henry Cejudo: Demetrious Johnson (2018) and Dominick Cruz (2020) Triple C baby. Demetrious Johnson is undeniably a top 3 UFC fighter all time and definitely the best single win on this list. Henry beat him in a razor close split decision that many people think should have gone the other way. Regardless, this win is ridiculously good. Dominick Cruz is the second best BW of all time. Henry knocked him out at the end of the second round in a fight where Cruz looked a couple steps behind the whole time. Cruz was a little past his prime at the time for sure but still a great win, and I cheer out loud every time I see the KO clip from this fight. Henry’s resume is insane and he would probably be in a lot more GOAT talks if he retired after the Cruz win imo. HM: Islam Makhachev: Charles Oliveira (2022) and Jack Della Madelena (?) I’m not sure that Islam beats JDM, but just for fun I’ll say where I would place him on this list if he does. Charles Oliveira has already been discussed here, and Islam beat him dominantly in what was undoubtedly his prime. JDM is the current WW champion coming off a win over 37 year old Belal Muhammad. There are a lot of question marks around where JDM will end up in terms of legacy, as he is so early in his career, and a win over him has the potential to age extremely well or kind of poorly. As it sits though, I would have to place Islam at #5 between GSP and McGregor if he beats JDM.
