The MMA Community mourns the loss of former UFC Middleweight contender Elias Theodorou.

Theodorou was a ranked contender and staple of the UFC's Middleweight division. He was a highly touted fighter throughout his career and was a strong representative of Canadian mixed martial arts.

After legends like Georges St-Pierre and Rory Macdonald, Theodorou was a modern pioneer hailing from Canada and even won The Ultimate Fighter: Canada vs. Australia.

He dedicated his career to paving the way for Canadians and showing the youth of his home country that there was a path for them. This wasn't the only community he strived for, as he was the first professional athlete of all time to compete with a Therapeutic Use Exemption for Medical Cannabis in all of North America.

One of his many goals was securing a safe way for Cannabis-dependent athletes to be able to compete freely without giving up their necessities.

His impact on the sport will be remembered forever by both fighters and fans, and he was truly a modern trailblazer. His fight extended further than just the octagon and he dedicated his life to others.

His final fight in the UFC took place against Derek Brunson in 2019 before going on a 3-fight winning streak to end his career, his final fight taking place in December of last year. It was later revealed that he was diagnosed with stage-4 liver cancer and has succumbed to it at age 34.

Let the Verdict Community send its thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of the passed legend, he will not be forgotten.
