A Middleweight clash between Israel Adesanya and Anderson Silva headlined the card in what was viewed as a passing of the torch. Adesanya has pointed to watching Silva compete at UFC 90 as the spark that inspired his own fighting journey. Both fighters were visibly emotional during the weigh-ins. The bout was promoted to the main event after the scheduled UFC Middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum was canceled.
