The UFC’s second event followed immediately on the heels of a successful debut and expanded the concept in dramatic fashion. It featured the only 16-man tournament in UFC history, contested without weight classes, rounds, or time limits. Royce Gracie claimed his second consecutive tournament victory, defeating 4 opponents in one night. The night also marked the debut of John McCarthy, whose presence would become central to the sport’s structure and officiating standards.
