A Light Heavyweight Championship rematch between Maurício Shogun Rua and previously undefeated Lyoto Machida headlined the card, booked as an immediate rematch following the heavily debated scoring of their first meeting. Rua scored a first round knockout to capture the title, ending the short lived Machida Era.
