Originally built around a Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev headliner that was postponed to UFC 272, the event instead featured Jamahal Hill vs. Johnny Walker as the main event. Visa issues delayed Fiziev, which led to Hill-Walker being promoted to the headliner. Walker entered coming off a loss to Thiago Santos, while Hill was coming off a knockout win over Jimmy Crute and looking to continue his momentum at Light-Heavyweight.
