Frankie Edgar vs Chad Mendes

This was a huge fight at the time. The Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo was about to fight the Interim Champ Conor McGregor who was that belt against Chad Mendes who had stepped in on 2 weeks notice. Frankie Edgar lost his Lightweight belt and moved down to challenge Aldo at Featherweight but lost, he then rattled off 4 in a row at 145 leading up to this fight. This is the No.1 contender matchup to get that title shot and the big pay day against either Aldo or McGregor. Mendes handles Frankie’s pressure very well at first, landing some nice combos and very heavy leg kicks. But Frankie is a menace, he just marches forward ready to bet on himself. And it pays off, he lands a left hook right ok the forehead of Mendes and drops him bad, he lands some follow up shots and definitely would kept landing on a compromised opponent if the ref didn’t step in and stop it. Huge fight and huge performance from Frankie Edgar. Now we know sleeze bag McGregor beat Aldo but never defended at 145. Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo fought for the Undisputed Featherweight Title once McGregor vacated it. So Frankie did get his title shot from this win but lost a unanimous decision to Aldo.
