Jan Blachowicz entertained the idea of cutting down to Middleweight for a title fight against current champion Israel Adesanya.

Maybe I have to cut the weight and give him (Adesanya) a rematch in his (weight division). If I have a chance, why not? For Izzy and his belt... I can try. For a title, I can sacrifice myself a little bit.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Blachowicz proposed that he would move down to face Israel Adesanya once more, but this time for the Middleweight belt. The two met once before a UFC 259 in March of 2020. It was Adesanya who moved up and faced then-champion Jan Blachowicz to capture a second belt. He would lose the fight by unanimous decision, with all 3 judges scoring it 4-1 Blachowicz.

The fight was close on the feet, with Blachowicz frequently checking leg kicks and landing jabs. It was in the championship rounds that he pulled away with the grappling though, securing takedowns and controlling Adesanya for the remainder of the fight. He would go on to lose his title to Glover Teixeira in his next fight via submission, whilst Adesanya continued his reign over the Middleweights.

Ariel Helwani asked Blachowicz if he was joking and stated that he didn't believe he could make the weight, to which Blachowicz responded by expressing that he was dead serious and that a title fight is worth the sacrifice needed.

Will we see this rematch ever happen, and at what weight class? Adesanya must pass his next test, Alex Pereira, first.
